Religious Education

Our Lady of the Southern Cross, Manor Lakes

Our Catholic faith is at the heart of everything we do at Our Lady of the Southern Cross. We are committed to educating the entire person - mind, body, heart and spirit. All in our community are called to be witnesses of the faith through words and actions towards one another. At all times, we are guided by Mary, the model of faithful discipleship.

Religious Education is an essential part of the learning that occurs at our school. Students have the opportunity to engage with Jesus in Scripture and prayer. Through dialogue and encounter with God and one another, students are able to explore important questions of faith and life, while developing the skills required to theologise.

Liturgy & Prayer

Celebrating our faith through prayer and the liturgical life of the Church is an important component of school life.

Opportunities for experiencing prayer and celebrating liturgy are regularly provided for the whole school community. Routines of prayer are an integral part of our daily life, including morning and afternoon prayer.

We gather as a school community for the celebration of Mass throughout the year.

Parents and families are invited to share in these celebrations.

Sacramental Program

In partnership with families and the St. Andrew’s Parish, baptised Catholic students are prepare for, and celebrate, the Sacraments in the following order:

Sacrament of First Reconciliation - Year 3

We are called to experience God’s love and mercy. As God forgives us, so too are our relationships with God and others.

Sacrament of First Eucharist - Year 4

We are called to the table of the Lord to receive Jesus, who is present in the Eucharist - the source and summit of all Christian life.

Sacrament of Confirmation - Year 6

We are called into a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us to use our gifts to live as Jesus taught us and contribute to the Church’s mission.

Social Justice

Through acts of service and charity, we participate in the mission of the Church. Over the course of the year, under the leadership of our Year 6 Social Justice leaders, students and our community contribute to Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion, the Vinnies Winter and Christmas Appeals and other actions that support those in need within our local and wider community.
